Determining Transaction within (art)Communities

Monday, 21 July 2014, 4 pm
di KUNCI Cultural Studies Center
Jalan Ngadinegaran MJ3 No.100, Yogyakarta

KUNCI invites you to join in a conversation between Angga Cipta (ArtLab RuangRupa), Haoritsa (ArtLab RuangRupa), Reinaart Vanhoe (Rotterdam based artist) and Syafiatudina (KUNCI) to explore forms of transaction in different communities that produce, foster and flourish the artistic life of the city. Through the discussion we want to open up possible scenarios on relations emerging out of forms of transaction. How do we understand values towards this current path of commons? What gets to be given away and what remains in our possesion, and why? By asking these questions, we want to see how collectivity generates working methods and tactics of living; circulates them through arts practices, and share them through models of exhibition.

Angga Cipta, Haoritsa, and Reinaart Vanhoe are artists in residence for Made in Commons (MIC) Indonesia in KUNCI Cultural Studies Center. MIC Indonesia (http://madeincommons.net/) is experiments on commons as categories in the making by ways of doing things together and exploring what we have in common. This residency program is co-hosted with ArtLab RuangRupa, Jakarta.

A Talk with Dieneke Jansen

Wednesday, 2 July 2014, 2 pm-end
at KUNCI Cultural Studies Center
Ngadinegaran MJ3/100, Yogyakarta

KUNCI invites you to a talk with Dieneke Jansen whose practice looks at social life through the lens of residential space conditions. New Zealand has a history of state owned housing which now is being dismantled. The demolition has been followed with protest from local group who perceive this as an attack to their community. Through her project, Area A&B, Dieneke Jansen focuses on the state housing area Tamaki where is now being developed and gentrified. In this event, she will talk about the relation between community, land, and the rights to housing, within the context of Aotearoa, New Zealand. How can art deal with the political issues of displacement and methods of protest?

Dieneke Jansen's photographic practice focuses on the relationship between designed and indeterminate aspects of urban and residential areas, and how they are inscribed with particular socio-political spatiality. In her art practice Jansen explores these ideas with site responsive actions and lens based activities. Within specific sites she explores and expands the opposition of simultaneously recording and making up reality. She exhibits in artist-run spaces, public art institutions and their off-site projects. In 2012 Dieneke was awarded a 5- month CK12 artist residency in Rotterdam, and in 2013 won the New Zealand National Contemporary Art Award. Dieneke Jansen is senior lecturer for the Bachelor of Visual Arts and Masters Art & Design programs at AUT University, New Zealand.

This talk is a part of Made in Commons (MIC) Indonesia dicussion series. MIC Indonesia (http://madeincommons.net/) is experiments on commons as categories in the making by ways of doing things together and exploring what we have in common.
