[CanPassRail] Re: VIA ownership of M&O Subdivision right of way

Sorry for the late follow-up, but I was just looking through the 2011 EcoTrain report again and it claims the M&O route has been sold off and can't be used. Is this true, or just one of many flaws in that report?

The recreational trail named the Prescott-Russell Pathway was developed on the former CPR M&O Subdivision right-of-way and reached Anderson Road in Ottawa about two years ago. I have posted in the "Miscellaneous" album (on the Canadian-Passenger-Rail Yahoo Group site) a photo of the entrance to the pathway at Anderson Road taken April 2, 2011, looking east. The English and French sign on the fence to the left of the gate has a paragraph in bold immediately above the logos of the City of Ottawa and Via Rail. The paragraph reads as follows in English:
> >
> > "Notice: This railway corridor is reserved for Via Rail Canada's future projects. Its use for recreational purposes may be eliminated or changed at any time. The privilege of using this pathway may be revoked at any time without notice."

I first think it was an error in the study and were mistaking with Alexandria sub! It seems that VIA bought it long ago when CP abandoned it in order to preserve a corridor for possible future high (medium) speed train. If someone has a proof of it.....
